Cervical cerclage specialist in London - Mr Stelios Myriknas
Specialist Procedure

Cervical cerclage

For patients with cervical insufficiency - whether identified during this pregnancy or following a history of loss - Mr Myriknas offers the full spectrum of cerclage procedures. This includes transvaginal cerclage (TVC) at 12–16 weeks, emergency cerclage when shortening is detected, and pre-pregnancy transabdominal cerclage (TAC) for those for whom vaginal placement is no longer possible.

Gentle assisted delivery - the ANEF technique by Mr Myriknas
Published Technique

The ANEF technique

Mr Myriknas has developed and published an innovative forceps delivery technique designed to dramatically reduce the risk of severe tearing. Rather than rushing, the technique allows time for the perineum to stretch naturally, moves the forceps in a curve that follows the birth canal, and avoids applying force against resistance.

The results speak for themselves - patients describe second-degree tears where surgery would typically have resulted in far worse, and several report no tearing or episiotomy at all after 40+ hours of labour.

Bilingual Care

Care in Greek & English

Mr Myriknas is a native Greek speaker with complete fluency in medical terminology in both languages. For Greek-speaking patients in London, this means discussing your history, your concerns, and your birth plan without the barrier of translation - in the language in which you think and feel most clearly.

He has served the Greek community in London for over 15 years, and understands the cultural context that often shapes how patients approach pregnancy and private care.

Fees & payment

Standard invoicing

Nothing is payable to the practice in advance. Consultations and procedures are invoiced within a few days, and package or delivery fees after your delivery. Payment is due within 14 days of the invoice date.

Securing your date

No deposit or advance payment of Mr Myriknas' fees is needed; your booking with the practice is confirmed in writing and invoiced after your care. The hospital applies its own separate booking and deposit arrangements for hospital fees.

Insurance

Maternity services are not typically covered by private health insurance. Procedures, deliveries, and packages are self-pay; some insurers cover consultations. We will provide the invoices and codes for any claim you wish to make.

Additional charges

Hospital stays, ultrasound scans, blood tests, and anaesthetist fees are charged separately and billed directly by the relevant provider, not by this practice.

Frequently asked questions

We aim to respond to all enquiries within one working day. In most cases we can offer an initial appointment within the week, though this varies with availability. If your situation is urgent, for example, cervical shortening detected on a scan, please say so when you contact us and we will do our best to prioritise accordingly.

The initial consultation is a focused clinical conversation lasting around 30 to 45 minutes. Mr Myriknas will review your medical history, any previous pregnancies, existing scan or test results, and your current concerns. From there he will outline what care would look like for you and which package or service best fits your situation. There is no obligation to proceed on the day. If you have existing notes or scans from your GP, midwife, or another provider, please bring these with you or have them sent ahead where possible.

Yes, absolutely. Partners are welcome at all consultations and at the delivery. Many patients find it helpful to have their partner present, particularly at the initial consultation where care planning is discussed. If you are attending alone and would like a follow-up conversation with your partner included, that can easily be arranged.

Your package covers all consultations with Mr Myriknas at the scheduled intervals, his personal attendance at your delivery, and two postpartum follow-up appointments. It does not include ultrasound scans, blood tests, anaesthetist fees, hospital overnight stays, or charges from other specialists. These are billed separately by the hospital or the relevant provider. No deposit is required and there is nothing to pay upfront; your package fee is invoiced after your delivery, with payment due within 14 days.

Yes. This is very common. The second and third trimester packages are specifically designed for patients transferring from NHS or another private provider. You do not need to have been with Mr Myriknas from the beginning. The initial consultation will review your existing notes, scans, and history so care continues seamlessly from where you are.

Yes. Mr Myriknas has extensive experience in high-risk obstetrics including gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum, twin pregnancies, VBAC, and recurrent miscarriage. He also specialises in cervical insufficiency and cerclage for patients who have experienced late loss or preterm birth. If you have a complex history, the initial consultation is the right place to discuss your specific circumstances and what care would look like for you.

Mr Myriknas attends every delivery personally, regardless of where you are in your journey. If labour begins earlier than expected, you contact him directly via mobile and he will be there. The delivery element of your care is not contingent on completing all antenatal appointments first.

Yes. All patients have direct mobile access to Mr Myriknas throughout their care. If you have a concern between appointments, whether it is a symptom, a scan result, or simply a question, you can contact him directly. This is one of the core differences between private and NHS care, and something Mr Myriknas considers an essential part of his commitment to his patients.

No. We do not take deposits or any payment in advance. Your place is confirmed in writing following your initial consultation, and fees are only ever invoiced after care has been provided: consultations within a few days of your appointment, and package, delivery, or procedure fees after your delivery or procedure, with payment due within 14 days of the invoice date. Please note this applies to Mr Myriknas' fees only; the hospital applies its own separate booking process and deposit for hospital fees. Full details are set out in our Terms and Conditions.

Nothing is payable to the practice in advance. For consultations, an invoice is issued within a few days of your appointment; for packages and deliveries, after your delivery; and for planned procedures, within a few days of your procedure. Payment is due within 14 days of the invoice date in each case. We accept bank transfer and major credit and debit cards. Please contact us directly if you would like to discuss payment arrangements.

Maternity services are not typically covered by private health insurance, as most policies exclude routine obstetric care. Some insurers provide cover for consultations, and we will provide the invoices and clinical codes you need to claim. Procedures, deliveries, and care packages are provided on a self-pay basis; you are welcome to seek reimbursement from your insurer, but the fee remains payable to us in full. We recommend checking directly with your insurer before your first appointment.

Yes. We ask patients to settle fees directly with the practice, and we will then assist you with any claim you wish to make to your insurer. We can provide itemised invoices and the relevant clinical codes required by most insurers. Please let us know at the time of booking if you intend to claim and we will make sure everything is documented appropriately.

Consultations take place at The Kensington Wing and The Chelsea Wing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, 369 Fulham Road, London SW10 9NH. Deliveries are also conducted at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which has dedicated private maternity facilities. It is a major London teaching hospital with full neonatal and intensive care provision, ensuring the highest level of safety for both mother and baby.

Yes. Video consultations are available where clinically appropriate, for example for initial discussions, follow-up conversations, or when attending in person is difficult, and can often be arranged at short notice. A secure video link is sent to you ahead of your appointment. Consultations that require an examination or scan will need to take place in person. Video consultations are charged at the standard consultation rate.
